![]() Kevin McClory, film producer, being restrained in bar room brawl with London film critic Leonard Mosley, who gave a very negative review of his film ’The Boy on the Bridge’, Venice Film Festival, September 1959. And Connery, who initially had no intention of starring in McClory’s unsanctioned Bond wannabe, found it hard to say no to the $3 million check McClory was dangling in front of him-or the hefty backend points that only sweetened the pot. It would take years of legal wrangling and new writers would come and go, but by the early ‘80s, McClory had finally persevered. But the renegade producer kept fighting like a Rottweiler with a T-bone. For the screenplay, he turned to bestselling coach-class author Len Deighton and, as an adviser, the man who knew 007 in his deepest marrow, Connery. With no legal hurdles blocking his path, McClory launched head-first into his own new cinematic spin on Thunderball called Warhead. And in 1963, Eon Productions, the company that would end up producing all of the canonical 007 films, struck a deal with McClory saying that, yes, he could be a producer on the 1965 screen version of Thunderball, but only with the stipulation that he not make his own movie version of the story for a period of 10 years.įlash forward a decade and Bond was as popular as he’d ever been. An independent producer named Kevin McClory and a screenwriter named Jack Whittingham, who had both helped Ian Fleming come up with the idea for his 1961 novel Thunderball (then going by the title Longitude 78 West), had sued Fleming for breach of copyright when he failed to credit their contributions. While all of this was going on, a different drama was playing out in the background at the British High Court. ![]() So after hemming and hawing about returning to play Bond one more time, he finally turned his back on the series, famously saying the words: “Never again.” Connery had played Bond six times between 19, but like all actors who think too much about their legacies, he bridled at being typecast. ![]() But by 1983, the original MI6 man of mystery was 52, and it had been a dozen years since he’d last ordered a Martini, shaken-not-stirred, in Diamonds Are Forever. I suppose it would have been fair to call him the reigning heavyweight champ, nostalgia being what it is. We called it “The Battle of the Bonds.” Apparently, so did everyone else. In our household, those four months felt like the World Series, the Stanley Cup Finals, and the Super Bowl all rolled into one glorious grudge match that would crown a victor once and for all. After all, it was the year when, during one brief four-month window, we got two James Bond movies-one with Moore and one with Connery. Which is why 1983 would go down as the ultimate litmus test for moviegoers who cared as much about license-to-kill superspies as we did. In the early ‘80s, though, Bond was everything. Why Miller's Crossing Is the Best Coens Movie.Where Are Conspiracy Thrillers When We Need Them?.Why 'Commando' Was the Most '80s Action Movie Ever. But today, Bond movies are just a small part of the larger Hollywood tentpole ecosystem alongside shock-and-awe superhero spectacles, eye-candy Pixar confections, and whatever Fast and the Furious installment is being shoveled at us. The Daniel Craig movies continue to rake in money hand over fist, and the sheer absence of a new 007 sequel on the release calendar can force theater chains to board up their doors and close for business (as we’ve just seen with the latest postponement of No Time to Die). Nowadays, a new Bond film is still a big deal, of course. Punches flew, wet willies were administered, titties were twisted. Still, whenever a new Bond extravaganza made its way to our sad local movie theater in suburban Massachusetts or an old one popped up on one of the three networks, our heated double-O debate would pick right back up where it had left off. I suppose that sort of white-hot passion still exists today in the schism between DC and Marvel partisans. To both of us, the stakes in our ongoing blood feud felt almost existential, as if a critical piece of our identities hung in the balance over which 007 we preferred (it should be noted that neither of us cared about the one-and-done George Lazenby). It’s amazing what an age difference of three years could make back in the early ‘80s. My older brother Keith, on the other hand, was ride-or-die for Sean Connery. Growing up, Roger Moore was my James Bond. Age fetish deserves inclusion on this list for the sheer purpose that it shows how fetishes can cross from the playfully erotic into more culturally profound and impactful subjects. ![]() Others say that age fetishes, like skin color and body type fetishes, are not fetishes at all, and that the reduction of a person’s features into points of desire (and, by extension, rejection) is dehumanizing and smacks of racism and body-shaming.ĭebate rages. Some argue that fetishizing certain physical characteristics like age and weight is no different than feet and hand fetishes, which we generally do not frown upon. The fetish doesn’t require a significant age difference - just the fact that someone’s age itself is a turn-on.Ĭonceptually, this fetish opens up debate surrounding the fetishization of other characteristics like skin color and body type. The term swings both ways: this fetish applies when someone older fetishizes the specific age of someone younger, and when someone younger fetishizes the specific age of someone older. Photo of Ouchy the Clown by Scott Beale / Laughing SquidĪlso called chronophilia (and sometimes ageism), the fetishization of age is a hotly debated topic in gay culture. The mind is capable of doing many incredible things, like transferring pain into pleasure, stress into desire, and fear into eroticism, so while I cannot justifiably make the claim that all fetishes are the mind’s roundabout method of dealing with revulsion, I do wonder why clowns have emerged as such a surprisingly common fetish. ![]() However, it is no secret that clowns - which will likely be remembered in a thousand years as one of the worst creations of modern man - are commonly fetishized figures, and I cannot help but wonder if fetishizing clowns is the only way some people can respond to their horror. I personally have never fully bought this claim. I have heard it proposed more than once that fetishes are psychological conditions that manifest themselves as the only responses certain people can have to stimuli that they would otherwise consider repulsive. I watched clown porn the other night just to see if this is a real fetish. Stay on top of (or under) the trend with this list of 36 fetishes - some well known, others less so - that you need to know about. Fetishes are rapidly moving out of their kinky niche and into pop culture. You’ve probably heard of a few obscure fetishes, like high-heeled shoes and rubber duckies. Fetish objects become sexualized when someone responds to them sexually. To clarify: fetish objects are not sexual on their own, like whips or dildos. Fetishes - also called paraphilias - are objects, materials, features, or articles of clothing, like used jockstraps, that people respond to sexually, and that enhance or facilitate sexual arousal. Kinks are “unconventional” sexual interests, like bondage or paddling. But I’ll reiterate their distinction here. You may be asking: What is a fetish, and how is it different from a kink? I clarified these two terms in my list of 30 kinky terms every gay man should know. That distinctly musky, delicious aroma, which can only be found in the playrooms of gay circuit parties and in gyms across the country, lingered in the stitching. The pain tends to come on with walking, gets worse until the person stops walking, and goes away with rest. It can occur in the buttocks, thigh, calf, or foot, but occurs most often in the calf. The classic symptom is cramping, tight pain that's felt in muscles "downstream" from the narrowed artery. The risk factors are similar to those for heart disease and stroke: smoking, high cholesterol levels, high blood pressure, and especially diabetes. In peripheral artery disease, the arteries affected by atherosclerosis tend to be the ones that supply the leg muscles. Fat- and cholesterol-filled plaque narrows arteries, and blood clots can collect on the plaque, narrowing them further. ![]() Peripheral artery disease is a form of atherosclerosis, the same condition that leads to most strokes and heart attacks. But the message changed to moderation after a number of studies showed that physical activity that's far less taxing is also associated with lower rates of heart disease, some cancers, and several other illnesses - if it's done regularly. But start with the light rod like power 3 in the shallow waters which have better chance to stay more vertical. And then if you decide that you are crazy about it, you can save up and upgrade your tackle. So I think it’s a wise idea to start with the tackle you can get easily. The budget is just the limit that you set in order to stop you from going crazy. ![]() If you are convinced that slow pitch works and you like the game, you can easily go beyond the budget. Your budget also depends on your motivation. But please understand I can’t recommend which class C rod is better. So, your rod needs to be Class B and better. You probably don’t have to follow in every details to be successful in your fields. And it was born to do so in the highly competitive waters around Japan. Slow pitch was born for the purpose to catch fish at the times no one else is catching. Just keep letting the center-balanced jig fall, and you can be devastating. This is true especially in the fish rich environment. Even with the spinning tackle, you can apply some principles and be productive. It’s not that everything has to be this or that way. Basic principles can be applied to any style of vertical game. But it can be a little less if it needs to be.īut on the other hand, the creativity is the heart of slow pitch. ![]() The reel is only required to retrieve 75cm per crank at the depth you are fishing. I recommend to get at least Class B rods. The rod has got much more to do with the slow pitch than the reel. And a lot of time you can’t afford what I recommend and you want to buy. And when the time comes, you can replace C rod with a better one. So it is actually not a bad idea to start with the light Class C rod, then get a medium or heavy Class A or B rod, and alternate these 2 rods for different tactics for a while. When your field is shallow and your jig is light, the light model of these rods may work just fine. The more you get into the game, the more you would want the real slow pitch rods. If you want to try it out, you should find these rods worthwhile. I’ve seen a couple of anglers breaking the rods when they strike at the contacts.īut it does not mean that you can’t practice slow pitch with these rods. The consistency of the quality is in doubt. They are not highly resilient and flexible as they are supposed to be. When you know what slow pitch rod is, you can tell they are not just by holding them. I don’t recommend Class C rods listed here. But this is not a “slow pitch rod” for a spinning reel. Poseidon Spin Jerker was produced by Sato Sensei before you established slow pitch jigging. Start with that and see if you can keep exploring. One of the best spinning reels in the world. I do not recommend to buy a new spinning reel for it. Now you are trying to start with a spinning tackle. Once you learn, the variations can be done easily. Because this is the way you will learn the most about this technique. Whatever tackle you use, if the jig moves in a way that fish likes, you’ll get contacts.īut I still do recommend to get an overhead tackle for slow pitch to start. In fact, there are a lot among slow pitch principles that you can apply universally to any vertical games. Slow Pitch Jigging is done by overhead tackle for a number of reasons.īut it does not mean that you can’t do slow pitch with a spinning tackle. But if you are buying a reel, for slow pitch jigging, I don’t recommend it. Because there’s so much to it than mere reel specs. However, if you already own Lexe, you should go ahead and start slow pitch jigging with it. Not for powerful and rhythmical crank of slow pitch jigging. It means that Ocea Jigger has more cranking power, and more speed (retrive length per crank). Lexe sacrifices its power by high gear ratio for speed, but the fact is that its speed is not that much. High gear ratio means you lose power and gain speed. Ocea Jigger 1500HG, for example, is 6.3 gear ratio. And the retrieve length is 32 inch or 81cm per crank, which is OK for slow pitch jigging. One handle turn cranks the spool 7.1 times. If I’m not good enough, you just need to find it out yourself. So I’m trying to make as much sense as I can. But you need to make this decision before you start. I am pretty sure you will know this reel is not made for slow pitch jigging once you actually do it. I can’t be sure about everything out of the specs. And I do know some similar reel of this kind from Daiwa Japan. But the weight of your catch involves a lot of other factors other than the reel power, since it also depends on what kind fish it is, how heavy the line and how much you have, how skilled the angler is, and also that the boat can follow up the angler. You catch such big fish with this reel.īut let’s leave out the fighting the fish part for now. ![]() I wore my first Sonoma sweater on a brief camping trip and it kept me cozy & warm and I didn’t have to worry about rips or tears, AND after washing it once, there were no pills either!
